the birchbox.

I’m sure that I spend a good 50% of my salary on beauty supplies (Sephora is like my second home, seriously). One lesson I have learned in my many, many years of make-up buying is that it’s typically worth the investment to pay more for a product (i.e. $11 L’Oreal foundation vs. $55 Chanel foundation).
Photobucket
With these “investments” comes the stress and agony of finding that perfect make-up. You don’t want to spend bundles of cash just to realize the product you came home with is not compatible with your skin type. A great way to avoid this type of error is through samples. If you’re a Sephora junkie like me, then you probably take advantage of their VIB or Beauty Insider program. For every dollar you spend you get one point. $100=100 points. At Sephora you can pick out one deluxe size sample for every 100 points. Think about that…you’re having to spend $100 for just one free sample. Now that is ridic.

Now let me get to the point of this post….The Birchbox, which might possibly be one of my favorite ideas ever.

Birchbox is a monthly sample box that you can subscribe to. For just $10.00 per month, you will get a lovely box of high end deluxe-size sample goodies delivered right to your door. Consider it a monthly “treat” to yourself…for only $10. I think that’s every girly girls dream! It’s the perfect way to discover new brands and to branch out. Plus, you can earn points towards free products or product discounts with referrals, ordering off of the Birchbox Members-only website, and product reviews on the Birchbox site! Not to mention the Birchbox site is full of great tips and gives a lot of extra information about the items in each month's box.

P.S. I was on the waiting list for about 3 weeks. So if the “monthly member” is sold out get on their waiting list and you’ll get an e-mail notification once a spot opens up. It’s worth the wait, ya’ll.

pretty bright.

In case you haven’t noticed in magazines, fashion blogs, runways, etc… neon colors are going to be HUGE this spring and summer. I’m loving the throw-back to the 80’s and in my opinion it’s never too early to get a jump-start on a new trend. I’m already stalking the internet (mostly Pinterest, duh) to find a way to incorporate this fluorescent trend into my everyday wardrobe, and here’s what I’ve discovered thus far:

P.S. Did anyone else used to love (like LOVE love) color-coordinating their notes in school with highlighters? I’m pretty sure that was my only motivation to go to class sometimes (oh, and to learn, of course). #randomthoughtoftheday

just say no...

To tanning beds that is. I consider tanning a drug. It’s addicting, harmful, and while “under the influence” of faux UV rays you probably think you look better then you actually appear.

Like most girls in their young twenties/late teens I was a big ole fan of the “fake and bake” tanning technique. There was just something about going to the tanning salon and frying my skin for a mere 15-18 minutes (depending on the bulbs, obvi) that was so addicting. It wasn’t until a few years ago when I finally snapped out of my twenty-something naive phase and I realized that (gasp!) tanning was actually bad for me! Yep, I was That Girl in my younger twenties but, thanks to the good Lord above, I am not her anymore. I’ve been “tanning bed free” for over a year now and my skin has never felt so healthy.

Giving up those UV rays doesn't mean you have to give up on a beautiful tan (yes, I’m that shallow and need at least a hit of a tan year ‘round). Lucky for us in today’s market sunless tanning products are better than ever! Gone are the days of applying self-tanner, only to end up looking like any member of the Jersey Shore cast.

One way to avoid dark streaks and orange hands is to get a professional airbrush spray tan but those can get pricey, so here are some fabulous products that are great for giving you that sun-kissed look all year:

Please don't sacrifice your health and your youthful skin to be bronze. Try self-tanning once - I promise you won't be disappointed!

P.S. If you’re looking to get a great professional spray tan in the Dallas area, give McKenzie at Phillip K. Thomas Salon a call. She’s awesome!

friday confess sessh.

1. I’ve never been a coffee drinker but this fall I have discovered the coffee gem that is the Pumpkin Spice Latte. It literally is the only way I can get through any given Friday. I’ll miss it when it’s gone after the season but my wallet won’t. Almost $5 a pop is ridic, ya’ll.

2. I’m going to blame Thanksgiving for this, but my newly washed, not dried, jeans are a bit tighter today then they have been in the past. This is not OK. Gym, here I come!

3. I go to physical therapy twice a week for my elbow and every time I go I cry because of the pain. Say prayers that the healing process starts to speed up!

4. I make my bed every morning. Part of the reason I do this is because if anything were to happen to me I do not want people thinking I’m a messy person. Does that make me crazy?

5. These ecards are so dang funny to me. Here are a couple of my favorites:

this one isn't an ecard but it makes me literally laugh out loud every time I read it:

6. And last but not least, I might be adopting a dog in the very near future. Meet Elliott. He is an 8 month old Dorky whom I feel in love with via petfinder.com.

my pinspiration.

Hi, my name is Ivy and I’m addicted to Pinning. Seriously ya’ll, it’s a problem. Ever since my Pinterest invitation request was accepted I cannot seem to stop pinning (I have over 1,500 pins. That’s redic). It seems like all most aspects of my life are inspired by something on Pinterest. These range from DIY projects, hair & make-up tips, wardrobe inspiration, new recipes, the list goes on and on! And like a proud artist, I want to show-off my work once it’s complete, don’t you? Well, if you do then you have come to the right place! I have started a new blog titled My PINspiration. The name says it all. Basically you just submit a picture of your Pinterest inspired project (or purchase or outfit or meal...you get the idea) and it will be posted on the blog, along with the original “pinspiration”. More details are included on the blog, so click here to check it out and start submitting your Pinterest projects!

best friend's wedding part 1.

This week marks the wedding week for my very best friend, Whitney! I seriously cannot believe how quickly these past 11 months have gone by, but I’m so happy the big day is finally approaching and I cannot wait to see how beautiful she is going to look when those church doors open (I know I’ll cry. Waterproof mascara is a must). I’ll be spending all week rehearsing my Maid-of-Honor speech, working on my (spray) tan, getting my hair and nails done, and being at Whit’s beckon call and I couldn’t be more excited! I’ve decided to dedicate this week’s blog posts to all wedding related things starting with the letter “S” - since that’ll be the first letter in her soon-to-be last name, Saunders. Today’s topic: wedding style
